Informal Sable Merle meeting by Tom Coen in CA

Categories:The Sable Merle Collie

After finding out Tom Coen would be in town for a judging assignment (Shelties) I wrote him in regards to the Sable Merle issue being presented at this years National.
I spoke with Tom Tuesday afternoon about having a short meeting after Saturday's Specialty show in Claremont. Tom is the Chairman of the Standard Review Committee for the CCA and has agreed to do an abbreviated version of what will be presented at the National. This is regarding the committees progress on the Sable Merle issue.  As many of us will not be able to attend the National for the meeting on this topic, it will give us some insight and an opportunity to ask  some questions.
This subject has been the object of many heated discussions over the last several months.  This is an opportunity to gather in a small forum and discuss the issue in a calm and polite manner.  Everyone wishing to speak, will be heard.  Please respect others during this meeting.

Meeting location on the grounds will be announced at the Show.

Ella ~ DART USDAA 09 ~ AD Jumpers

On the AD Jumpers course Ella was listening and running fast. She knocked a bar…. which she hardly EVER does and I gave her a right when it should have been a left and I said OUT instead of GO at the end and she did just what I asked her to do…. she went out to the tunnel and not GO to the last jump.

We also had a bit of a snaffu with the jump setter who decided to set the jump as Ella was coming back around to take that jump again. Another day another show. I am just happy that Ella seems to be having lots of fun and is staying connected with me.

Ella ~ DART USDAA 09 ~ AD Standard

Ella and I only ran three runs at the USDAA trial this weekend. Sat run was pretty awful…. she sort of flipped me off at the weaves so I carried her off the course.
She HATES being carried off.

On Sun we ran AD Standard first and it had some good stuff and a total flying leap OVER the contact on the dog walk. She was trying on the weaves so that was OK.

Papillons at play

We take other dogs that we are not showing and walk them around. This weekend we took all the Paps. Here is Slammer enjoying watching the show.

We went to my Mom's house for a Bar B Que after the show and let the Paps all run around. Harmony was a little overwhelmed at first but then got with the program.

My brother brought his little dog, Peanut, who was acting like a klingon to little Grinder. They all had fun and ran around.

Harmony

We had Harmony out and about ALL day at the agility trial today. She was perfect and VERY brave. She took treats from strangers, did the down and back to a couple of "judges" and I handed her off to about 5 different people to hold and she took it all in stride. We sat ringside and watched a few classes. I think being in our laps is her favorite….. Oh the treats are high on her list too!

The Dalmatians went in right after Bostons at 8:00!!! FREEZING!!!! The grass was still crunchy and VERY slippery. I was fine showing the Boston but was pretty scared showing the Dal….. I felt sorry for the GSD handlers in the next ring, because they have to run REALLY fast!!

So every year I make a looooong list of goals. Some are easy, some are harder and some are fun dreams….
on my 2009 to do list I put Dax Best in Sweeps win. So this just was wonderful to get to cross this off my list. Dax was such a good boy!!
